REV. DEBBIE STRICKLAND MEMORIAL FUND
Download Application PDF
Rev. Debbie Strickland was ordained in 2011 and served as an associate priest in the Parish of St John the Baptist Church, North Sydney, Nova Scotia. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, her death occurred just a few weeks after she attended a Mothers' Union Canadian Council meeting on Skype in February, 2016. Before her death, Debbie had challenged each branch in Canada to embark on projects that changed both their community and themselves. To honor Debbie's memory a fund was established to support outreach programs such as community gardens, breakfast/lunch programs, coffee time for seniors, help for the homeless, setting up childcare programs for those in need, drop in centre programs and the like.
Donations to the Make A Mother’s Day Program support the Rev. Debbie Strickland Fund. Branches are encouraged to make an annual donation to help sustain the fund according to their circumstances.

SUGGESTED EXAMPLES OF A PROJECT
A Mothers’ Union Branch has been supporting young single mothers in their community with baby supplies for the past number of years. They have decided to hold a regular Mom and Tot program in the church hall and provide a place for them and their children to meet. For this purpose they would like to purchase a baby changing table in the hall. A Mothers' Union Branch sees a need in their community for warm winter quilts for the homeless. They would like to purchase a sewing machine so they can meet and put together quilts for distribution.
SELECTION OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION
The decision will be taken by the Canadian President, the Canadian Treasurer, the NSPEI President, and the Branch Leader of St. John the Baptist, North Sydney N.S. Up to four grants will be awarded in each calendar year depending on the available funds.
Please send the application to the Canadian Mothers' Union by email: info@canadianmothersunion.ca OR mail to the Canadian President.
Successful applicants are asked to submit a report on the outcome of their Project to Canadian Council within six months of receiving the grant. The Branch will acknowledge the Rev. Debbie Strickland Grant in any project literature.
