The Canadian Mothers’ Union Banner

The Canadian Banner shows the Virgin and Child against a maple leaf background with the coats of arms of the Canadian Dioceses. The banner was made in England in 1950 - 1951 (a year and a half in the making) and paid for by small donations from all Canadian members who raised the then very large sum of $600.00. In 1951 it was displayed for six months at Festival Hall, London, during the Festival of Britain and was then dedicated in 1951 at St. Alban’s Church, Winnipeg.

Over the years the banner suffered from the wear and tear of being moved from Diocese to Diocese as the Canadian Council moved every 4 years. The original banner has been replaced with a silk-screened replica as shown in the photo. The original banner has been returned to St. Alban’s Church in Winnipeg.
